“After nearly nine fulfilling years in the European marketing department of American Airlines and having gained first-hand experience of the marketing power of the internet and new media I am excited to be embarking on this new venture with my cousin Robbie George. My time with American Airlines was predominantly spent in the online marketing team most recently (from 2008–2011) as online advertising manager for UK/Europe where I was responsible for the company’s PPC (paid for search) strategy. I have strong project management experience most notably in managing a calendar of display advertising campaigns including writing creative briefs and devising media plans. I also have experience in managing key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
A strong desire to put my skills into wider practice has precipitated the challenge of moving into the ever changing world of social media. The rewards for those businesses that embrace it and actively engage with their current and potential customers are huge! The prospect of George Social Media helping its clients to fully exploit this and ultimately achieve business growth is massively exciting.
The last few years of my life have been very busy! In 2009, I got married to Kelly. This was a wonderful family day, full of celebration with Robbie as my best man. Since then, we have moved to a bigger house, which although stressful at the time, is now a lovely home. We have a dog, Bailey (an adorable Westie with a great personality) who is very much a part of the family! As a lifelong and fanatical supporter of Queens Park Rangers, I enjoy nothing more than going to a game, as well as blogging about the latest goings on at the club and reading up on all things QPR. Having just renewed my season ticket following a fantastic championship winning season, I am now looking forward to watching matches in the Premier League and travelling up and down the country to some of the best football stadiums in the world. Apart from my football I also like to keep fit and have recently invested in a treadmill for the house (now there really is no excuse for not ‘going to the gym’).”
“During my time at senior school a key part of my A level studies was in business and economics. I am now in the process of completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing at the University of Portsmouth, in which I have a particular passion for internet marketing and social networking. This has encouraged me to pursue social media management as a profession, alongside my cousin Oliver.
My marketing degree has involved the study of many aspects of online marketing including digital, internet and social media. Having developed a solid skill set in these areas, I can bring a fresh approach to social media management. As social media is in effect an infant industry, staying on top of developments and continually scrutinising the industry gives me an edge when using social media for the benefit of businesses.
I wish to use my skills, passion and know-how in order to help businesses who don’t have the time or knowledge to properly utilise social media. The power it has to dramatically increase the success of businesses is huge, and working with small businesses to help them achieve their goals is something I know will be rewarding.
On a more personal note, like my cousin, I am also a lifelong fan of Queens Park Rangers (don’t hold it against us!). I love to travel and have been fortunate enough to have experienced many countries and cultures. I am half Canadian and therefore enjoy regular family trips to North America, and have visited various locations in Europe and the Far East. Travelling and social media for me go hand in hand, as the power of this communication tool means I can share my experiences with friends and family at the click of a button, no matter where I am in the world!”
